Be bold. Pull the "make your presentation memorable" factor out of your hat!

Last week I saw a few presentations. They were all fine. They were well prepared and they made sense. However, if you would have asked me to tell you what they were about, I need to scratch my head. The reason for this is that they missed `the magical, make it memorable factor`.

If you really want people to remember you and your presentation, you need to dare to be creative and pull the `make your presentation memorable` factor out of your hat. How can you make your presentation memorable and how to do this in a good way? Read the article down below and you’ll learn one way of doing this.

One effective way to make your presentation memorable is to use a prob. A prob is a concrete item that you bring along and that symbolizes, demonstrates or underlines your message. Especially in the university world, people are rather reluctant when I touch the subject.

They argue, which I do understand to a certain level, that they never see this happen on conference stages. They think and feel that they need to stick to the fixed formulas and do not dare to go out of their comfort zone, be creative, show guts and become memorable this way.

The more amazed was I when, during this same week, when having this discussion with my students, I watched an episode of DWDD. The quest was a Dutch professor, called Walter Lewin that taught at MIT (one of the most prestigious technological university in the World, situated in Cambridge Massachusettes USA).

This man happened to be the king of props. Just like the majority of professors, he just could have been happy with making formulas on the black board and leave it at that. But, not professor Water Lewin. He hangs on cords and let himself be swung to demonstrate the laws of physics. He cycles through the lecture room to prove another scientific point. What is it that makes Mr. Lewin brilliant and a genius and that being the king of probs works for him?

He is a genius because he first of all has the guts to do it differently and to step out of the ordinary. Secondly he uses his creativity. And thirdly and most importantly, it is all functional. He demonstrates probs to make his theory and message crystal clear. This made his reputation go all over the world. Even so that his lectures are broadcasted by a US television network and he can count Bill Gates among one of his truest fans. Using probs in the right manner made professor Walter Lewin truly memorable.

So my message to you is, be bold and dare to use a prob. Use your creativity and make sure it is functional. It will make your presentation and you memorable in a very positive and effective way. Dare to be memorable and step out of your comfortzone!

Wishing all of you a happy, magical 2012!
